The best fish I’ve ever had?
That’s a tough one … I’ve eaten at some fantastic places.
There was one especially memorable meal that we had at a little fish restaurant on the harbour on the Ile de Ré, a small island off the west coast of France. It was possibly the simplest and best fish dinner that I’ve ever had.
We were shown a small selection of fresh dover sole at the table and asked to select which we wanted. Twenty five minutes later they arrived – two perfectly filleted, grilled Dover Sole served drizzled with brown butter. Served with a bottle of amazing chilled Montrachet.
No embellishments, no twiddly bits: just super-fresh fish served perfectly.
