Honey and Lemon

When you have a cold there is a tradition to drink hot honey and lemon to make you feel better. In the UK we call this a Hot Toddy. OK, it also has a shot of whiskey or brandy for medicinal oomph, but you get the drift.

There’s method in this old madness, I think. Lemon gives you much needed Vitamin C, honey soothes and is antiseptic, and the alcohol just makes you feel better. (Make that two slugs of whiskey or brandy as this is the Mother of all colds.)

Soooo…. translate that to food, and a honey, lemon and chilli coated sticky chicken must be good for you, right? Medicinal.

I am in London. It is dark and it is snowing. But despite that I am a woman on a mission.

I haven’t been able to taste food properly for several days because of this damned virus and I am hungry, but with no real appetite. But I sense the green shoots of recovery and this is what I want to eat. I am off to seek it out.

The culinary equivalent to a Hot Toddy.
